Congratulations go to several of our 6th-8th graders who were school finalists in the Patriot's Pen writing essay contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The following eleven students were the top finalists from WPLS: Kassandra Yeung, Rachel Luk, Adrian Hasani, Lucas Chow, Jocelyn Law, Ella Liang, Mark Lui, Audrey Lee, M. Ken Hongo, Kandra Chau, and Lorenzo Hasani. These eleven moved on to the post level of the competition, competing against other students in the San Francisco area.

Three of our students took top honors at that level: 1st place - Ella Liang, 2nd place - Mark Lui, and 3rd place - Rachel Luk. Their essays were read at our Veterans' Day assembly on Friday. Members of the VFW post presented them with award checks. Ella's essay will be moving on to the district level. Congratulations to all of our winners, and job well done to all of the participants.

Patriot's Pen Essay Contest is sponsored by Veterans of Foreign War (VFW). The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America's history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief.
