During 2021, as we celebrated the 70th anniversary of West Portal Lutheran School and looked forward to the 75th Anniversary, we have asked a number of former students, faculty, staff and friends to share their memories of WPL School

West Portal Lutheran School, which I attended from Kindergarten through 8th grade, graduating in 2007, was home to some of the most formative years of my life. My fondest memories include hiking up Mt. Davidson from the temporary Miraloma campus during construction of the new Sunset campus, attending chapel, cooking club, Catechism class, learning German, and going to Coloma and Washington DC. West Portal Lutheran introduced me to lifelong friends with whom I'm still in close contact today, and it gave me a solid educational foundation for high school and beyond — I went on to attend Lowell for high school, the University of Pennsylvania for college, and Stanford for graduate school. But most importantly, West Portal Lutheran guided me to develop a relationship with Christ and taught me the promise of salvation in Him, and that is the single most important lesson that remains with me to this day!
